Taking ART from the classroom to the community...
The Jacksonville High School Art Initiative Project serves two purposes.
First, it helps JHS students by giving opportunities to give of themselves and their talents by working with and within the community. Through collaborative works, exhibitions, mentoring, and service, students gain a deeper confidence in themselves and a greater sense of their purpose in the world. In many instances, this project has steered wayward students onto a better path through a sense of accomplishment, positive reinforcement, and adult mentoring. Read more... Second, it benefits the community by showcasing original artwork in various locations and witnessing the positive impact our youth can make. JHS/AIP also allows JHS artists to volunteer and work with various art related festivals and events in the Onslow County area to foster a deeper appreciation for the arts and community. The process is win-win for the community, JHS art students, and the JHS Visual Arts Department. |
